Dig-Next-2
Dual power feature
The Dig-Next-2 has a dual power feature which can be used when the main power supply gets turned off (either by using an automatic relay on the dedicated relay port or some other means such as a smart switch) to keep the controller online and functional. This works slightly different then it did before on the Dig-Uno/Quad/Octa though.
2 power inputs:
- Main 6.35mm screw terminal
- Supports up to 12AWG/4mm2 with wire ferrule
- Auto “true” 5V-48V support
- USB-C
- Accepts USB-C cable (including USB-C to USB-C cable)
- 5V only
- 5V 2A recommended, an old phone charger will do fine!
The Dig-Next-2 has special circuits to allow both to be connected at the same time however there is a switch over behaviour because once USB-C is plugged in, it will run on this full-time until removed.
- If you are running on main power and plugin USB-C, nothing noticeable will happen but internally the Dig-Next-2 switches over to power it’s onboard electronics from USB-C only.
- If you are running with USB-C and main power online and remove the USB-C power, the controller will reboot because of the power switch over.
So one way the switch-over is seamless but the other way around it is not, this is something to take into account. Nothing harmful happens and this is supported behaviour!
The Dig-Next-2 also features status LEDs to see which power options are connected and if main 5V and 3V3 power is online!
