How much power do addressable LEDs use?
Last Update 2024-12 (Lots of 24v variants added including QuinLED custom strip!))
There are lots of different digitally addressable LEDs out there, the more popular one’s are WS2812b and SK6812 for instance. But how much do all these LEDs use? What’s the advantage of using 5v or 12v LEDs? Is there a difference in power usage? Let’s test this to find out!
Make sure to also watch the video at the bottom of the page to understand the sheet better!
Buying LEDs?
Check out my guides on selecting the right LED strip for your project, then use the below sheets to calculate their power draw!
Digitally Addressable LED Sheet
Because the sheet is getting more complex, I have split the sheet in a 5v,12v and 24v version! Please read and compare all to do comparisons! All tables are aligned so you can also compare the types of LEDs you want directly in excel!

Calculate Voltage drop
With the above numbers you can now also calculate voltage drop for the wires you ae going to run. I like using this calculator!
