QuinLED An-Penta-Plus Specifications

Back to QuinLED An-Penta-Plus Index

The QuinLED An-Plus was designed as a high power PWM dimmer with extra advanced features such as having built-in Ethernet available and a Digital output channel with unique “buck-converter loop through” option to run both Analog PWM and Digitally Addressable LEDs from a single controller. Other unique features include built-in fusing for all positive output channels, available power injection terminals for powering really power hungry LED strips with up to a 30A total dimmer power limit while doing high frequency ~20kHz PWM dimming.

Features

Micro-Controller and Connectivity

  • Based on the Espressif ESP32 Micro-controller chip
    • 2.4Ghz WiFi connection with External Antenna
    • USB-C plug with programming capability
      • USB-C ESD protection chip
      • Expandability and no lock down!
        • No hardware lock-downs (you buy it, you own it!)
        • No problem installing updates to firmware
        • Program whatever you want to it!
  • Great WiFi coverage
    • Using an external antenna, although small, WiFi reception is strong and allows for easier placement in your house or project location.
  • Optional Internal Temperature sensor (Add-on board, see Expandability section)

Power and Dimming/PWM

  • High Voltage capable
    • The QuinLED An-Plus is 12v-48v compatible
      • This enables new generation LED strips with less voltage drop issues over long distances!
      • Please see the power handling article for more details surrounding that subject
  • Power Supply friendly
    • Fully custom DC-DC stage for internal power conversion  (board electronics only)
      • Includes multiple built-in protection circuits
    • Custom capacitor circuit layout with multiple capacitors per positive output channel to prevent current spiking for the power supply (and over the power wires) as much as possible
    • “Low noise” PWM dimming
      • Design is fully optimized to prevent any “PWM noise” coming from the controller or power supply as much as possible!
  • Built-in Fuses
    • Internally fused positive output channels
      • 5x replaceable fuse
        • 1 on each positive output channel
      • Onboard electronics have their own auto-reset fuses
  • High Quality modern MOSFET packages
    • Including 10v MOSFET drivers and resistors to create smooth PWM in conjunction with the custom capacitor circuit
      • Allows better dimming granularity
    • Tuned MOSFET circuit
      • Decent Low level dimming capable
      • High current handling of up to 10A per channel
      • “Slowed down” PWM pulse to be more EMI compliant
        • Designed to run ~20kHz PWM without a problem
        • Freewheeling (Flyback) Diodes
          • To prevent back feed from blowing up the MOSFETs

Expandability

  • Stemma QT/Qwiic connector allows easy expansion with I²C devices
    • Hooks into existing eco system providing easy to buy and hook up sensors such as:
      • Temperature sensors
      • Humidity sensors
      • Light sensors
      • extra input pins, etc.
    • Can also be used as 2x GPIO, 3v3 and GND connector for custom accessories
  • Multiple button input, 3v3 and GND terminals
    • Button inputs with HW debounce circuit
    • Rotary encoder possible using 3x input!
  • Onboard QuinLED I²C temperature sensor socket

Housing

  • Housed in a strong aluminium housing with clear labeling
    • Color coded terminals to easily identify plugs!

Software and integration

  • 100% Native WLED and ESPhome compatible
    • Built around hardware that is natively compatible in ESPhome and WLED
    • Multiple ways to natively integrate board into Home Assistant
